Dental Implants
Whether through an accident, an inability to provide perfect oral hygiene, or through no fault of your own, there comes a time when a tooth simply cannot be saved. Dr. Eric Berkner and all of the staff here at Ponderosa Dental Arts in Oregon City are committed to providing the best possible care under these circumstances, and restoring your beautiful smile to you with a permanent solution.
Dental implants are an effective, safe, and permanent method for replacing teeth that are damaged beyond repair, while maintaining the natural look and feel of your smile. Dental implants can help prevent bone resorption or additional complications that can arise when damaged teeth go untreated. We genuinely care for the long-term health of our patients, and will be happy to sit down and discuss with our patients the best and most effective method of restoration for their individual needs. We always take into account your oral health, health history, lifestyle, and several other factors when we sit down with our patients for a full consultation on the options available to them.
Here at Ponderosa Dental Arts, we primarily recommend one of the below three options for tooth-replacement. Different options may be better for different scenarios, depending upon the number of missing teeth, condition of the gums, etc.
- Single-tooth replacement – this is the most common situation, and the simplest. Placing a single implant in a site that is missing a tooth can be done with or without a surgical guide, and restored within 4 months. If a front tooth is missing, we will never make you leave our office with a missing tooth. We will send you home with a temporary tooth while the dental implant is healing.
- Multi-tooth replacements – usually reserved for situations where two or more teeth in a row are missing or damaged, these replacements are similar in nature to bridges. However, unlike a bridge, where connections must be made to natural teeth, implants spare the surrounding teeth, and thus are more conservative.
- Implant-supported dentures – Dentures are hard to wear and provide only 10% of your biting force when all of your teeth were present. Adding several implants underneath a new or existing denture increases you biting force to over 40% and eliminates your dentures from moving. Unstable dentures or dentures that have never fit correctly can easily be solved by placing dental implants underneath them for support. This creates a better bite with much more comfort than the original denture. Learn more on our Dentures page.
